The construction industry is responsible for building or improving structures and roadways. The profession is a highly physical one and has one of the highest rates of workplace injuries.

While many dangers lurk in plain sight in and around construction areas, others may not appear until after causing harm. Discover the hazards that exist at a construction site and the severe injuries they cause.

Fall hazards

Construction workers have to work from various heights to complete a job. Even a one-story home requires workers to get tall to install the roof or paint a ceiling. Falls from ladders are some of the most common and damaging incidents on construction sites. A fall from any height may result in an injury to the head or spine; however, those from higher points may result in severe trauma or death.

Electrocution incidents

Electricity is a crucial element on construction sites. Tools run off of it as do the lights. In some instances, workers may become hurt by a hot wire or a tool that has come into contact with water. When a worker fails to see the danger, he or she may inadvertently come into contact with the electrical component. This may lead to shock injuries or burns. Some cases of electrocution may result in permanent brain damage.

Accidents may happen almost anywhere, but on a construction site, the chances that they will are higher. It is crucial to follow safety standards and remain attentive while in and around a construction site. A failure to do so may result in life-long and catastrophic injuries.
