Biography

Mr. Cahill has focused on representing people seriously injured by others since he joined the firm in 1993, after a one-year rotating clerkship with three Ocean County Superior Court judges. He has handled hundreds of personal injury cases and is an experienced trial attorney. He combines thoroughness and knowledge of both the law and his cases to achieve maximum results for his clients. He is known for his aggressive, but professional approach to settlement negotiations with insurance companies. He understands that people need their lawyer to be an advocate and also to answer their questions and keep them advised about their case.

Among his most prominent recent achievements was a $475,000 settlement in August 2024 for a person who sustained a broken leg, which required surgery, after being struck by a car as a pedestrian, $450,000 in September 2024 for an individual who sustained neck, shoulder, and other injuries, when another vehicle turned left in front of her vehicle, a binding award of $1.1 million (which was nearly double the defense's last offer) for a young man who suffered fractures, including in his spine and chest, as a result of his truck overturning after another motorist forced him off the road; $1.5 million for a woman who suffered from a condition known as conversion disorder, which caused speech and other problems, as a result of trauma in a car accident; $750,000 for a woman who suffered a severe knee injury as a result of the dangerous condition of a commercial sidewalk; and $775,958 in settlements and judgments for an off-duty police officer who was attacked outside of a bar. Mr. Cahill also recently negotiated a $1.2 million settlement for a woman whose hip and ankle were fractured in a car accident and another totaling $750,000 for a construction worker who suffered back injuries when he was thrown to the ground as a result of a tire explosion caused by a tire repairman's negligence.

In September 2017, he settled a case for $750,000 for a man who slipped and fell on an icy sidewalk, which its commercial owner had made no effort to make safe. The fall caused a fractured skull and a brain injury which cost the man his sense of smell and much of his sense of taste. In May 2018, Mr. Cahill completed $2.1 million settlement for a couple who sustained serious and life-changing brain and orthopedic injuries in a car accident caused when another person went through a blinking red light and stop sign. In December 2019, he recovered $1 million for a woman who suffered a serious head injury in an accident caused by a commercial truck. In April 2020, Mr Cahill completed a settlement for $450,000 for a man who slipped in a store on water which had dripped onto the floor from an ice delivery. This caused the man to hyperextend a knee, which had recently been operated on, causing multiple new tears in the knee, and requiring him to undergo three new surgeries.

Mr. Cahill took on a case for a 65-year-old truck driver who suffered a serious back injury in a truck accident. Because of quick and thorough early investigation, he was able to secure a video of the accident from a business down the road from the accident, which he then had an optics expert interpret due to the poor quality of the video. This resulted in the defense changing its position from one of contesting fault, to admitting the accident was their fault. The case then settled in 2013 for $4.15 million.

In October 2013, Mr. Cahill won a trial for a motorcyclist who suffered serious injuries to his lower leg and other areas in an accident. The leg required five surgeries. The other driver blamed the motorcyclist for the accident, but the jury unanimously found in favor of the motorcyclist and awarded him $2.6 million, which was the largest verdict in Ocean County that year.*

These are examples of prominent results, but Mr. Cahill's cases are all given intense effort, and receive regular attention, no matter how big or small the case may be.

Mr. Cahill is routinely chosen as an arbitrator by other lawyers seeking to have their clients' cases decided by someone with substantial expertise and experience in the field of personal injury law.

Mr. Cahill is a lifelong resident of our area. He is member of the Ocean County Bar Association. He has been admitted to practice in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He and his wife have four children. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his family, sailing and mountain biking.
