November 23, 2009 - Teacher Suing for Fall Caused by Condoms

A New York teacher alleges in a lawsuit she slipped on garbage, including condoms, and hurt herself due to negligence on the part of school officials.

High School of Art & Design teacher Karen Hollander is suing the Department of Education, alleging the dispersal of condoms to students at the Manhattan school resulted in the accident that left her with injuries to head and nervous system, the New York Daily News said Saturday.

Hollander alleges school officials should have taken action to prevent garbage, including the distributed condoms, from collecting on the floor of the school's cafeteria prior to her accident on Nov. 12, 2008.

"They caused, allowed and permitted condoms to be distributed by school personnel to the students, many of which were opened during the school lunch period and thrown on the floor," Hollander alleges in the suit.
