February 11, 2010 - Innocent Plea in Fake Doctor Case

A San Francisco man has pleaded innocent to charges he posed as a dermatologist and treated patients out of his home, court records indicate.

Timothy Syed Andersson, who entered his plea Wednesday on a total of 51 felony counts, is accused of falsely claiming to have been a staff member at Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday.

Prosecutors allege as part of an attempt to pass as a dermatologist, the suspect used a needle to poke a patient dozens of times without offering the patient anesthetic.

Brian Buckelew, a spokesman for the district attorney's office, said prosecutors expect a bail challenge from Andersson's attorney, George Lazarus.

Andersson, 66, was being held on $1 million bail pending a March 11 court appearance, the Chronicle said.
